Outcome of a fight between Shiva and Vishnu
The intense debate on the respective strength and powers of Shiva and Vishnu has always be a sore point among the followers of Shiva and Vishnu. There are various stories, contained in Hindu Mythology about the triumph of Shiva over Vishnu and vice-versa. These myths have most probably originated from the age old rivalry between the followers of Shaivism and Vaishnavism or the Shaivites and Vaishnavites.
The most popular myths are the epic victory of Krishna over Shiva and the victory of the Sharabha Avatar of Shiva over the Narasimha Avatar of Vishnu. In my opinion, there is little merit in these myths, which most probably were a result of the one-upmanship between Shaivites and Vaishnavites. The end purpose of these myths was to prove the strength and powers of their favored deities.
So, when Vishnu and Shiva are one and the same, how can there be a fight, war or duel between them and what can be the possible outcome, when on fights oneself.
There are are many Vedic Verses, which predate the rivalry between Shaivites and Vaishnavites that explain in clear terms that Shiva and Vishnu are one and the same, irrespective of their different forms.
The more popular of these Vedic verses, which, I have described in this post can easily answer the questions given below, which serve no purpose other than dividing Hindu Society and creating imaginary difference.
Who is more powerful Shiva or Vishnu?
Outcome of a fight between Shiva and Vishnu?
Who has more powers Shiva or Vishnu?
Who is the most the most powerful God in Hinduism?
Shiva or Vishnu Worship, which is more Beneficial?
The simple meaning of this Sanskrit Vedic Verse can be taken to be - Vishnu is the all encompassing Shiva and Shiva is the all inclusive Vishnu, they exist is each others hearts, they are found in the same place, if you have found one of them you have found the other, there is no difference between them, they are the same.

You asked a very intelligent question no doubt

Truth
DeleteActually, there is a spiritual meaning to these fights ... Shiva and Vishnu, here represent two aspects of the same supreme conciousness that we are all trying to reach. The stories are easy ways to remember which aspect shoud prevail in different conditions
ReplyDeleteBefore, we take a look at the details, please remember both the aspects are required equally in reaching the supreme state of sachidananda. And you can choose to start with any one, and you will reach the other, and once we have both we will be firmly situated in the divine.
Now, for the explanation... Vishnu (the all pervading one), represents the bhakti - or the way of surrender. Shiva (the one who is not) represents the Gyaan - or the way of true knowledge.
So, how do these work?
Bhakti, means total surrender - Once you surrender, you start seeing that the same force is everywhere - including inside yourself and hence you reach the state of knowledge that all is one, and this is in essence the knowledge aspect of Shiva...
If you start with search for knowledge, you will surely reach the final knowedge that everything in the universe is the same energy, and at that point in time, you will feel surrender to the same energy ... there by reaching the domain of vishnu
If you read the above words, that says Shiva is in Vishnu's heart (or core) and Vishnu is in Shiva's heart .. It simply means that once a person reaches the core of the path they have taken, they find the other path right there ...
Now for the question, Why do Shiva and Vishnu fight (even in mythologies) - Its simple, its when one reaches the core, but due to the ego, doesnt realize the other path there and becomes equaminous, then the other path needs to be forced - so that the yoga (or unison) is complete, thats the fight ..
It also represents, our fight - Should we choose surrender, should we choose knowledge - to start with ... I am sure a lot of readers of this site have shuttled between these emotions.
Now, for a few examples - Consider the fight between Veerabhadra and Vishnu, during the Daksha yagna - There Daksha was performing a yagna, but he did so, without equanimity in the heart - He had bhakti, but knowledge was missing ... Veerabhadra had to force that in him, by cutting his head ... Vishnu was not defeated in that, his core needed to come out and overpower the surface
Same thing happened in the sharabheshwar vs vishnu fight -
In the fight where vishnu won, the Banasura fight, Banasura, had started with the knowledge path, however his ego did not absorb the knowledge properly and he did not learn surrender, so krishna had to beat that into him.
Anycase, the above are simply my views and I dont intend to hurt any ones feelings and my apologies if I have menaged to hurt any one.
Let there be peace and harmony
Is that true goddess kali mata gave her darshan to Tenali Ramakrishna? Or is it just story?

House is same but the doors are many. From my understanding purana are meant only to develop bakti over ishta-deveta and go deep into it. Thank you
ReplyDeleteGandaberunda was a folklore addition not in main puranas. Sharabha pacified Narasimha and Vishnu returned to his abdose after peace was restored. What is the need for Vishnu taking another form as peace was restored. It would be a tamasic move just like Hiranyakashipu picking a fight to prove a point.
