Real Meaning of Ong Guru Dev Namo Mantra
Many Sadhaks, mostly from Western Countries who are practicing any form of Kundalini Stimulation are in the habit of chanting the Mantra - Ong Namo Guru Dev Namo || - ओंग नमो गुरु देव नमो ||, which is one of the most famous and popular of the Kundalini Awakening Mantras. This Mantra is usually chanted a few times before the commencement of the Kundalini Meditation in order to invoke the Guru or Teacher Within.
Over a period of time, I have received many queries about the real meaning and effectiveness of this Mantra. The simple and basic meaning of the Mantra can be taken to be – I bow before the Guru inside me. In my opinion, it is of utmost importance as to how the Kundalini Jagaran Yogi visualizes the Guru, his nature, form etc.
This Mantra is in itself a most powerful Mantra to stimulate the Kundalini Shakti, provided one realizes the real essence of the Mantra. Some people see, the Guru as their Master or the Guru Sampradaya or the entire lineage of Gurus others as Bheetar Ka Gyan or Inner Knowledge or Wisdom, still others as one of their Ishta Devta or preferred deity.
In my opinion, the most effective method of chanting the Mantra is to visualize the real Guru Within as the formless and attribute less or the Nirgun Nirankar, the Ever-Existent Being who is the source of all and everything in the Universe. While chanting the Mantra, the Sadhaka should have the firm belief that he in invoking the Ever-Existent Being to show him his real self.
Once the Sadhaka grasps the real nature of the power within, the Kundalini Shakti automatically become activated. The mental state of the Sadhaka is the most important ingredient in any form of Kundalini Stimulation, if the Sadhaka has full faith in the unimaginable power of the Supreme Being, then success in stimulating his Kundalini will be possible in a very short period of time, which may even be a few minutes.
